Last night, the new “night mayor” met an eager crowd at Bushwick’s DIY venue, Secret Project Robot.

Council Member Rafael Espinal, a longtime supporter of local nightlife and DIY venues, sponsored legislation to create an Office of Nightlife. It finally happened.

The office will be responsible for making sure that the industry can grow in NYC.

There have been four reported closures in Brooklyn in less than a year—three of them, Silent Barn, The Gateway and The Spectrum/Dreamhouse, were based in Bushwick.
