Some loved picture day, some dreaded it and then there were those who didn't get the chance to truly show who they were back in the day. Well here's your chance to show off without the awkward hairstyle or the misspelled name appearing below your photo.
Halloween night will be an opportunity to go extreme with both your costume and personality, extending the idea of self-expression into the traditional sitting of a yearbook portrait. On Thursday, October 31st, photographer Rafael Fuchs will transform his gallery space into a photo studio from 5 - 8 pm at 56 Bogart Street #1E. Costume attire is fully encouraged, as your picture may be documented in Rafael's Bushwick Yearbook portrait series.
The intent of Bushwick Yearbook is to let people express themselves in a way they couldn't back in the days of grade school yearbook photos. Rafael sees Bushwick as a place where you graduate and progress in your artistic career, so the Bushwick Yearbook will chronicle the artists, musicians and various other residents during the respective stages of their careers.
In earlier years, Bushwick Yearbook concentrated primarily on the residents of Bushwick. In 2013 it grew beyond the locals to include those who wander in while visiting the surrounding gallery spaces, integrating the visitors with the local vibe and culture.
"I want to open the doors for them as well," says Rafael. So whether you are a resident or an interested reader, stop by on Thursday night in your Halloween gear and boldly go where no yearbook portrait has gone before!
