Get Ready to Vote: Tomorrow Is Bushwick's Congressional Primary!

Get ready to vote in the primaries again, Bushwick!

Get ready to vote in the primaries again, Bushwick!

Tuesday, June 28th is the date of this year's congressional primary, and our neighborhood is part of one of the New York City congressional districts in which a race is happening this election cycle.

Bushwick is one of the neighborhoods that makes up the state's weirdly shaped 7th congressional district: the other neighborhoods in the district are Maspeth, Ridgewood, and Woodside in Queens, Greenpoint, Red Hook, East New York, Brooklyn Heights, Sunset Park, and Williamsburg in Brooklyn the Lower East Side and East Village in Manhattan.

The democratic candidates on the ballot tomorrow are incumbent Nydia Velázquez and challengers Yungman Lee and Jeff Kurzon, Republican Allan Romaguera's bid for his party's candidacy is uncontested, so there's no local GOP primary.

The congressional elections tend to be a lot less visible than other federal votes, especially during a presidential election year, but they're important nonetheless.

After a purge of registered voters became widely evident during New York's presidential primaries on April 19th and an analysis of the purged names identified Hispanic and Asian American voters as the ethnic groups most widely represented among the purged voters,   Velázquez called for federal election monitors to oversee tomorrow's vote; the office of New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will be operating an Election Day Voter Hotline to address any issues voters might have casting a ballot in the primary.

Polls will be open from 6am-pm; check your registration here, find your polling station here, and if you're really feeling it, explore a map of our congressional district here.

See you at the polls, Bushwick!
