It’s ‘A Shot In The Dark’

Making his New York debut on Friday is Christian Caiazzo, a California-by-way-of-Florida painter whose one-night-only show “A Shot In The Dark” is set to hit Elsker Studio, among the various galleries that fill up 56 Bogart.

A creator of large, oil paintings on gypsum boards, Christian’s art is pointillism, impressionism and a mix of surrealism. A search for faces that lands on the most quietly animated subjects. Take his “Even The Cowboys Are Crying,” which Caiazzo displayed among a handful of Florida artists at a 2022 show put on by the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg.

The theme continues with “Save Yourself, Not The Cowboy,” which locates a pink-hatted blonde cowgirl amid its shimmering, stained-glass landscape of the American West. Another painting, called “The Street Lights Are On But No One Is Home” was so captivating that it reportedly sold off the wall of a dive bar in Tampa for $7,000.

“‘A Shot In The Dark,’ symbolizes not only my New York debut but also a statement of unity within the artistic community,” says Caiazzo in a press release in advance of the show. Another post from Caiazzo says that his paintings “transcend mere depiction, offering poignant vignettes of personal growth, societal strife, and the unwavering pursuit of artistic expression”

Caiazzo says he plans to use Friday’s show to unveil a number of new works; the motifs this time, from what early previews show, look to be angels and skeletons. Also among the paintings also set to be on display is “She’s Fine,” a painting of the late actress Brittany Murphy that will be raffled off at the Elsker Studio show this weekend.

A Shot In The Dark” will be at Elsker Studio on May 17th, from 8pm to 11pm at 56 Bogart Street. Keep with Caiazzo’s work on Instagram.
