Bushwick and Ridgewood’s beloved cafe Milk & Pull will be saying hi to Bed-Stuy come mid-February, when the beloved cafe opens at 307 Malcolm X Boulevard!
Milk & Pull just signed the lease for the space, which is two blocks from the Utica Avenue stop on the A and C trains.
This isn’t the first time the coffee shop has put down roots in a new neighborhood. Milk & Pull, which got its start in Bushwick when its Irving Avenue location opened in 2013, expanded to Ridgewood in March of 2015, opening a big location on the corner of Seneca and Madison avenues.
According to Milk & Pull co-owner Angela Austin, their new spot will be more like the big, freelancer-friendly Ridgewood outpost than the compact grab and go Bushwick cafe, with a 28-person seating capacity, slightly more than the Ridgewood location.
Management is still working out what foods the new location will offer, but Austin confirmed that they will definitely (thank the coffee gods) be serving Stumptown Coffee.
Dough doughnuts probably won’t be on the menu, though. Milk & Pull’s Bushwick and Ridgewood locations serve Dough’s offerings, including their signature hibiscus and cacao nib doughnuts, but since the pastry company is based in Bed-Stuy and sells its goods out of its storefront on the corner of Lafayette and Franklin avenues, Milk & Pull is looking for different pastries. “We are going to be offering … some of the same things we offer at the other shop, but we want to try something different [in this] neighborhood,” explains Austin.
The new outpost will launch with the same hours as its sibling locations (7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends), though hours may change as management gets attuned to the rhythm of the new neighborhood.
Patrons can expect the new location to be light-filled as well as spacious: the 900-square-foot shop inside a former hardware store will have glass windows on Malcolm X that will stretch spacious 30 feet on the block. “Most places get maybe 18 feet [of window],” says Shlomi Bagdadi, the Tri-State Commercial Realty who leased Milk & Pull the space. Austin says that there will “definitely” be window seating at the new spot!
Other eateries near the new Milk & Pull include Magic Soul Food down the block at Malcolm X and Decatur Street, Southern-style dessert spot Doc’s Cake Shop around the corner on Bainbridge Street, and the new location of beloved French eatery Chez Oskar, which moved to Bed-Stuy from Fort Greene earlier this year, a block away. Historied cocktail bar Casablanca is also very near the new Milk and Pull, at 300 Malcolm X Boulevard.
Check out the Bed-Stuy location when it’s up and running— and in the meantime, stop by Milk & Pull’s Ridgewood location tomorrow, December 8, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., when the house will be hosting a tasting of Stumptown’s Snow Day seasonal blend, which Milk & Pull’s house drip coffee this winter.
