Tomorrow afternoon, Bushwick’s mainstay cafe Little Skips throws its delightful annual block party–and this year’s events lineup, which includes a barbecue, brews of both the coffee and beer variety, live mural painting and performances by nine different acts, looks like it’s going to be a great time.
The block party, which kicks off at noon and wraps up around 9pm, is planned around the start of the season and the lengthy daylight hours thereof, and is both a celebratory community event and an occasion to support a good cause. In addition to all of the free fun, attendees can purchase raffle tickets from the organization 108 Lives; the proceeds from the tickets benefit the organization, which builds critical infrastructure in Nepal (the org is currently working on schools in a a small, remote town near the Tibet border), and one lucky ticket holder will score a free trip to Tibet with the 108 Lives team.
This year’s performers include local darlings Sic Tic & “Space Funk” specialist Ben Pagano; past Skips party acts have included HayBaby and Monsters of Brooklyn. The block party’s lineups typically have a great flow and are well curated showcases of a wide range of local talent old and new.
If you’re arriving during the day, get yourself a cold cup of joe! The house’s summer coffee specials, which recently included an unusual, well balanced iced lavender mocha, are not to be missed, and the Counter Culture coffee currently on offer, Cold Hearted, is a citrusy, floral blend of Ethiopian and Kenyan coffees that presents a great, seasonal contrast to other recent Skips house coffees.
So put on a layer of sunscreen tomorrow, and make sure your shades are handy–and enjoy!
