Fort Greene, Bed Stuy, Flatbush…the borough of Brooklyn is represented at the recently opened BKLYN House Hotel, a 118-room boutique hotel at 9 Beaver St. off the Flushing M stop. The hotel, in collaboration with Renaissance Collective and Image Gallery, has commissioned 11 local street artists to create 11 different indoor murals on each floor, all representing a different neighborhood.
“We hope to keep Brooklyn culture alive by embracing the newly developed businesses by adding [art] to them,” says Steven Gonzalez Marin, Creative Director of the Renaissance Collective.
The artists, from Staten Island’s Rez Shaolin to legendary Bronx graffiti artist Yes One, came together to create something uniquely Brooklyn for this Bushwick hotel. Take a look inside the making of these murals in the below video, and don’t miss the opening reception of the BKLYN House Mural Project this Saturday, January 16th from 6-9 pm.
