In New York City, where no not-for-profit worth its salt is without an ace development team, it’s quite possible that you already have End-Of-Year Donation Solicitation Fatigue, in which case, we feel your pain. We’re counting down the #GivingTuesdays until the end of the year. It’s not that we don’t want to donate to lots of worthy causes, we just don’t have the funds for it!
But if you want to make a donation that will make a huge difference to someone in your community, this event tonight seems like a good bet to you: A celebratory dinner tonight at at the Latinos Unidos Center at 218 Wyckoff Avenue will be honoring men and woman who have been a big part of civic life in Bushwick in 2013.
The event is organized by the Bushwick Community Council, which is headed by Barbara Smith, in collaboration with the 83rd Precinct. Honorees include members of Community Board 4 and those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for the people around them, and proceeds from donations made at the event, which is 21 and up, will go towards toys to give as Christmas gifts to the children of needy families in the community. The event starts at 7 and goes until 11, and it promises to be a good time and a great opportunity to become better acquainted with some of your neighbors. We’ll see you there!
