A blue moon isn’t typically blue, but it is unusual and we’ll get to see one tonight. Every 2.7 years or so, a calendar year has thirteen full moons instead of twelve. 2015 is one such year. Catch this rarity with these top seven shows this weekend.

This weekend, Kite String Tangle will be playing the Full Moon Festival (see below) and Stranger Cat will be playing the Out in the Streets Music Festival (also see below), but you can also catch them together at Baby’s All Right in what can’t help but be a very special show. Brisbane’s Danny Harley of the Kite String Tangle has had two sold-out national tours and boasts a “captivating live show,” while Brooklyn-based Cat Martino of Stranger Cat recorded and toured with Sufjan Stevens and Sharon Van Etten before starting this new electro-pop side project.

#3 Tiny Hazard, Big Thief, Good Field, & Reservations @ Trans-Pecos, 915 Wyckoff Ave, Ridgewood (FRI 8pm, $10)

If you haven’t heard Alena Spanger (vocals, piano) fronting Tiny Hazard yet, go. Now. DO IT NOW. Her voice against the strong ensemble created by Anthony Jillions (synthesizers, vocals), Derek Leslie (bass, cello, vocals), Ronald Stockwell (drums, percussion, vocals), and Ryan Weiner (guitars, banjo, voice) is stunning, transitioning from sweet to haunting to raging rock. They play with Big Thief and friends from Austin, Good Field, and Reservations.
