Short weeks rule, amirite? And now that Memorial Day has passed and we’re in full early-summertime swing, it’s time to you get going to some concerts! Check out our seven picks for the week, starting tonite!
#7 FREE Indie Pop w/ Sepoy, Broke Royals, Lilly Wolf @ The Paper Box, 17 Meadow Street (THURS 8PM, $FREE)
Spending Thursday night with the studs of Broke Royals (see below) sounds pretty damn good.
#6 Exploding In Sound & Ipsum Present: Nine Of Swords/Ex-Breathers/Stove/Washer/Cop @ Aviv , 496 Morgan Ave (SAT 9PM, $8)
If the sky opens up on Saturday like the weatherman says it will, you’ve found the perfect show pairing.
#5 Yvette, Eartheater, Dreamcrusher, Unisex @ Alphaville, 140 Wilson Ave (SAT 8PM, $8)
Dip your toes in the experimental– get your Earth Eaten and Dreams Crushed in the lead up to brutal, industrial soundtrack of Yvette? Feelings will happen. Be ready.
#4 Cold Beat, In School, Arm Candy, OCDPP @ Silent Barn, 603 Bushwick Ave (SUN 8PM, $7)
Sunday evening spent amongst the spacey, raw post-punk riffs of SF-based Cold Beat gives me tingles…
#2 “Paradise Simulator” Release w/ DUST/Lamin Fofana/Sinclair @ Bossa Nova Civic Club, 1271 Myrtle Ave (SAT 10PM, $FREE before midnite)
Bossa Nova is BACK and keeping it sexy with a release party from electronic outfit DUST. Expect a sweat-heavy tropical breeze, strong cocktails, a lot of skin and leather, and textured waves of sound.
#1 Davey Jones (Lost Boy?) / Acoustic Warrior (members of The Hairs) / Secret Crush / Holy Tunics LIVE at Max Cellar @ Amancay’s Diner, 2 Knickerbocker Ave (FRI 7PM, $5)
Remember when that new 24-hour diner that opened at 2 Knickerbocker with a slightly shady dedicated spin the bottle room? Now, this back even more than 3 months ago (we know it’s hard-things flip in this neighborhood at a ridiculous pace). Isn’t that the same place where we used to throw to all-ages shows inside of a bodega at the infamous Living Bread Deli? Why yes, yes it is. So it’s only appropriate that concerts happen upon this now-legendary lot. Go see the very first one!
