Friday First: Ponyhof Featuring Will Butler- “Tiger”

Friday First: Ponyhof Featuring Will Butler- "Tiger"

A few weeks ago, we were thrilled to chat with the multi-talented Carrie Erving, mastermind of Bushwick’s own Ponyhof, in the first edition of our brand new series Upstairs Invite. Now, we’re doubly thrilled to exclusively premiere “Tiger,” Ponyhof’s latest single, in this week’s Friday First. Featuring Will Butler of Arcade Fire, “Tiger” is an enchanting power ballad lifted from Ponyhof’s stellar LP Empires. Friday First is a column featuring new releases from both local and national bands.

The moment we first heard Empires, we were blown away by Carrie Erving’s polished, evocative sounds; the record mixes a variety of influences (and superstar cameos) gracefully and effortlessly. “Tiger” is no exception, with Erving’s elegant vocals careening across a delicate background, lush lyrics enlivening “the tiger in [her] heart.” Erving and Will Butler are old friends from high school– you know, no big deal– making for a subtle, superb collaboration. Highlighted by gorgeous instrumentals and ending in a fiery blaze of screeching guitar, “Tiger” is a standout track from Empires and a true sonic gem.

Are you loving “Tiger” as much as we are? Download the track right now, and don’t miss Ponyhof alongside Cassandra Jenkins and the Top at their album release show on Monday, January 20,  at Glasslands, where you can pick up your own CD or LP of Empires.
