Your 4/20 Guide to Getting Lit in Bushwick

Safe to say it’s been a monumental 12 months for weed since the last 4/20. Canada legalized it, a wave of CBD-infused everything took over NYC…well things were looking promising for a minute there.

In any case, the sun is out, the birds are chirping, and the trees across from my apartment are  blossoming with more than just plastic bags. If you’re looking to celebrate the warmer weather and embrace all the bud mother nature has to offer, look no further than our roundup of 4/20-related events.

1. Greening the Concrete Jungle: An Intro to Green Roofs                           at AgTech X, April 17

Even though NYC is home to an estimated 40,000 acres of rooftop space, only a dismal 1 percent incorporate greenery. If you’re of the mind that abundant rooftop access is one of New York’s greatest perks (take my number), consider learning more about the role green roofs can play in transforming cities. Alan Burchell offers the opportunity at his Greening the Concrete Jungle: An Intro to Green Roofs seminar on April 17 at AgTech X.

Burchell is the founder of green building technology firm Urbanstrong and structures his class to cover everything from system types to installation, leaving participants with a foundation of green roofing and suggestions for where to turn next. Insure your spot in the class for $29.

2. Macrodose 4/20 at Secret Project Robot, April 20

Surrender to the strange at Secret Project Robot on Saturday for their Macrodose 4/20 event. Whether you’re burning out from a long day of celebrations or just hypnotized by the mind-bending liquid light projections, a hazy windup to your 4/20 is assured. The night kicks off at 7 p.m. with psychedelic sounds from Knife Hyts and goes until 2 a.m. with live sets from HONEY, Chat Logs, PC Worship, Headroom, and Dphokcheong2000. Tickets available for $12.

3. Flying High with Super Flu at House of YES, April 20

Getting high is a double entendre if you’re going to House of YES on 4/20. Dig up the closest thing you own resembling a flight attendant getup, astronaut, tourist or anything with wings (of course, 4/20-related attire will do just fine too). The evening promises first class fanciness, aerial performances, and flight attendants serving tiny bags of snacks. Prepare for take off by securing your RSVP for free entry before 11 p.m.

4. Drugdealer Album Release Show at Market Hotel, April 19

Your 4/20 Guide to Getting Lit in Bushwick

Experimenting with drugs is nothing new for LA-based musician Michael Collins, at least not when it comes to the signatures for his various musical projects. Before releasing The End of Comedy under the name Drugdealer in 2016, Collins recorded music as Run DMT, Salvia Plath, and Silk Rhodes. With his sophomore album complete, it’s only fitting he’s elected to hold his record release show for Raw Honey at Market Hotel on the eve of 4/20.

If his sophomore album holds a candle (or doobie?) to The End of Comedy, you want to grab your tickets before they’re gone!

5. Trigger Play and Bushwick Bitches Brew                                                      at Pine Box Rock Shop, April 20

Baked or not, you can bank on laughing to the point of hysterics this 4/20 at Bushwick Bitches Brew — The Monthly Mix. The free new monthly show at Pine Box Rock Shop features the best acts from the Bitches Brew weekly lineup, including comics from Netflix, Comedy Central, and The Tonight Show. Don’t take our word for it? Time Out New York named it one of the “Top 5 Free Activities” and “Best Comedy Shows” in the city. (And don’t forget to tip your comics $$$).
