Vegan Food Fest 2, which will be held at Mayday Space in Bushwick October 19 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm, promises to be an incredibly jam-packed event.

From vegan speed-dating, to live performances, Halloween costume contests, cupcake battles, food demos, dancing for jerky, raffles and more.

The cupcake contest asks bakers to bring in at least five of the cupcakes, list all their ingredients and is open to all who dare to bake. Prizes are plentiful and winners can expect gift cards to Grisle tattoo, Little Choc Apothecary, Moo Shoes, Marty’s V and more yet to be announced. GT’s Kombucha is sponsoring and guests will be treated to free samples of the popular fermented fizzy drink.

For eats, the event has a delicious line-up, including Jenine’s Plant Based Creamery, Anthony’s East Side Italian, Compassionate Cookery and Vegan Rob’s.

Last May was the inaugural Vegan Food Fest Fundraiser organized by Stacie “Vegan” Peirce, where she fundraised over $2,000 for the Catskill Sanctuary. This March brought Peirce a new companion, a shepherd and dingo mix, Nina, and with it, a new reason to fundraise. Nina, along with three other cats adopted by her friend Susan, Tittles, Baby Girl and Fuzzr, were originally rescued from abusive homes. In the Nina & Friends Fundraiser GoFund Me page, Peirce writes, “[Nina] spent her first 6 months living mostly in a cage. She was only fed or walked on occasion.

Her original owners abused her and she was used for dog fighting.” On meeting Nina, Peirce shared, “after being left alone in a room with 3 cats and whatever food/water was left four days prior, surprisingly, Nina was in a good state and happy to see me!” This experience struck a chord in Peirce, and it was then she vowed that Nina and the cats, “would never have to suffer again.” She’s since kept that promise and has raised $270 in hopes to hit the goal of $6,000 in order to provide medical attention to new furry family members like, Baby Girl, now Bailey, who suffers from FIV and will require extensive care.

VFFF2, which will be held at Mayday in Bushwick October 19 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm, promises to be an incredibly jam-packed event. From vegan speed-dating, to live performances, Halloween costume contests, cupcake battles, food demos, dancing for jerky, raffles and much more, attendees are in for an eventful afternoon.

While VFFF2 is strictly vegan, Peirce also insists people bring along a carnivore. She wants them to experience what veganism is about, and how delicious it can be. “This is an eye-opening experience,” she says, and ends the interview with a Pam Ahern saying that encapsulates the vegan ethos, “If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn’t we?”
