Ah, summer! To us, that means dining al fresco, chasing ice cream trucks, and checking out a slew of new bar openings.
This month, Henry Glucroft, owner of one of our favorite wine bars Sunrise/Sunset, opened Petra, a new colorful bar that serves up beer, wine, and an amazing menu packed with Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
“This particular spot has been a bar since the 1950s, I think,” Glucroft tells Bushwick Daily. “The name and decor for this place was inspired by the city of Petra, Jordan … We wanted to give it a home-y feel but still serve fun, Mediterranean-style food.”
If Petra’s living room-style decor, extensive beer list, and eclectic arsenal of wines aren’t enough to keep the bar full of curious patrons, guests should definitely drop by for the food. Petra’s menu is chock-full of unlikely—but truly delicious—flavor combinations like charred broccoli with strawberry rhubarb, beets with cherry tomatoes and taleggio, and an exotic octopus dish with turnip, lentils, and peas just to name a few.
Petra quietly opened earlier this summer on the corner of Evergreen Avenue and Cornelia Street. “We’ve been open for friends and family for a few weeks. We want people to see us in the neighborhood and stop in for a drink,” says Glucroft.
While we may be blowing up Petra’s spot, we can’t help but get enthusiastic about a low-key restaurant with high-flavor food!
Stop by Petra’s any day of the week except Mondays from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. or later!
