Back in September we told you about Better Than Jam closing the doors of its old location at The Shops of the Loom on Flushing Avenue, and getting ready for a big move. Now the time has arrived, and Bushwick’s favorite quaint, handmade goods store has announced its new, bigger space at 20 Grattan St (between Bogart St and Morgan Ave).

New Better Than Jam space now operates with 4,500 square foot of old warehouse space converted into the creative person’s dream building. The ground-floor is dedicated to showcasing the work of local designers, artists, and crafters just like you know from the old location. The second level functions as a communal studio workspace with screen-printing and sewing equipment, a ventilated workstation, tons of table space, and a workshops and classes area.

“We are […] a full cycle [operation] within one space.  Handmade gifts and fashions, supplies for your own projects, and the studio to create them in,” says Karin Persan owner and site manager.

Better Than Jam also offers the studio space to rent on hourly, daily or monthly basis. The fees start on $50 a day or on $175 a month and go up to $600.

Furthermore, they offer classes and workshops in craft-based techniques like weaving, sewing, printing, and drawing. On Saturday they have a 3-hour long Dreamcatcher making class for $46, which includes any materials you may need.

Karin says that they are also planning to introduce classes for small business community such as product photography, book keeping and promotion series.

“I was very fortunate to have found this spot, and I want to share it with my community.  It can be hard finding affordable creative spaces, so come use mine,” says Karin.

Better Than Jam’s STORE & STUDIO, 20 Grattan St, East Williamsburg, Hours: Mon, Wed-Thurs 12-8pm; Fri & Sat 12-9pm; Sun 12-7pm. Follow them on Facebook
