These are local handball players that I spotted in Maria Hernandez Park.

I was really drawn to the handball court as a photographic subject since the light was bright the day I was shooting, creating really high contrast lines and dark shadows on the court.

As I observed the game, I realized what I really wanted to capture was the intensity and competitiveness of the players. It’s exciting to watch and I love the camaraderie on the courts among people of all ages and all abilities – it’s totally inspiring.
