Today at a press conference held by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo a flury of new executive orders, policies and actions were announced by the governor.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York will be implementing a 90-day moratorium on evictions for residential and commercial tenants.

This announcement comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement from Cuomo announcing that the state will be suspending mortgage payments 90 days for individuals under financial distrss.

The Governor also announced that he would be signing an Executive Order mandating that 100% of workforce must stay home, this excludes essential services which he defines as pharmacies, grocery stores, and others. [We will be updating this article once full guidelines are released]

Lastly, the Cuomo announced, “Matilda’s Law” to protect NYers age 70+ and those with compromised immune systems.

The Matilda Law requires the following for NYers age 70+:

Remain Indoors

Pre-screen visitors by taking temperature

 Visitors should wear masks.

Stay 6 feet away from others.

The Governer made sure to stress that all announcements from the press conference are not reccomendations but requirements that will be enforced if not followed. However, he did not provide any specifics on how the law will be inforced or how NYers +70 will get access to medical equipment required to follow this law.

This is a developing story and Bushwick Daily will be adding to this article as more specific information becomes available.
