Braven Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in Bushwick, ceased their operations and closed their doors on Monday. The company has announced their plans to sell the lease and equipment for its 2,500-square-foot brewery, bar, and restaurant.

The sudden closure of the recently opened brewpub, that found its home in Bushwick on 52 Harrison Place in September of 2018, is due to “personal and financial reasons.”

Founded by Marshall Thompson and Eric Feldman in August of 2013, Braven Brewing Company was a dream of two homebrewers, who started with a Kickstarter campaign that helped the company off the ground. However, the crowdfunded money wasn’t enough to build out a full brewery.

Braven Brewing Company collected enough to bring the project to life and keep the company running. In January 2015 they launched their first style, a White IPA, across the bars of New York City.

The company was a local mainstay and had many creative collaborations with neighboring businesses in Bushwick. Their “Last Laugh Lane” was a 5.4 percent ABV Affogato-style Porter made with locally roasted coffee beans by Variety Coffee Roasters, “A traditional Italian dessert, affogato consists of vanilla ice cream or gelato drowned in espresso.” This collaboration was announced last week of February.

Another recent was Honey Dripping Beehive, that came out end of January. The beer was a 4.3 percent ABV American Wheat Ale brewed with Meyer Lemon Honey provided by Bushwick Kitchen, a neighboring honey and hot sauce company based out of the Pfizer building. They described this Ale as, “Light in body and hazy in appearance, with an aroma of honey and lemon.”

“Eric and I are incredibly proud of the brewery, bar, and restaurant we’ve built here and even more proud of the staff who operated it,” said Braven CEO and Co-Founder Marshall Thompson. “We are certain it will be the perfect situation for another brewery or restauranteur looking to open expeditiously in Brooklyn.”

It’s sad to see a neighborhood staple go. As the founders wrap up their operations, they hope to see the space they built out with care and intent give another entrepreneur the perfect foundation for a new business.

The space boasts of high efficiency equipment that result in low monthly utility costs, a Microbrewery and Farm Brewery License for production of beer for on site, for take away, and distribution sale. The annual production capacity is around 1,100 barrels and includes all ancillary equipment, process piping, and storage for production. And, sweetest of all, it’s located steps away from the Morgan L train stop.

“The Braven team has built a most desirable asset,” said Jake Quellman of Brick&Mortar, Braven’s real estate broker, in their press release. “We are confident any purchaser will see its incredible value and appreciate the seamless transition the key money assignment opportunity offers.”
