Wednesday, June 5
Maurice Moore at Elsewhere, 8 p.m.
Maurice Moore, an R&B artist based in Los Angeles, CA, is passing through New York for a performance at Elsewhere on Wednesday night. Moore dropped his vibey and soulful EP, Destination Unknown, in January 2019, which features some beautifully layered harmonies and rich bass lines. Moore is currently working on songs for his debut album with Grammy-winning artist H.E.R.
Thursday, June 6
Subhaze at House of Yes, 7:30 p.m.
Head on over to House Of Yes this Thursday for a rousing multidisciplinary performance from audio-visual collective Subhaze. The collective puts on immersive inter-sensory performances, that explore the architecture of sound, acoustic reverberations, and light by utilizing music and visual ratios. This performance features music by Ricardo Romaneiro, Vaski Dukovski, Justin Abrams, Leo Leite, Manama Mizumoto, and David Zipa. Light artist Christian Hannon will be providing visuals for this evening inspired by abstract electronic and classical sonorities.
Friday, June 7
Coco Verde, Better Head, Weekender at Our Wicked Lady, 7:30 p.m.
We’re entering prime rooftop concert season, and if you haven’t graced the beautiful rooftop of Our Wicked Lady yet this year, there’s no better time than this Friday. Neighborhood psychedelic-pop staples Coco Verde have been honing their live set with an endless stream of stellar gigs since the release of their debut EP, Marathon, last fall. Better Head delivers a similar summer-time appropriate indie pop that’ll help you vibe out as the sun sets, while Weekender has their own Tame Impala-inspired, floaty style, that’s more electronic and synth driven, but just as tranquil. Plus, they have a new record in the pipeline, so expect to hear some new songs!
Saturday, June 8
Justus Proffit, Dig Nitty, Dirt Buyer, Turtklenecked at Trans-Pecos, 8 p.m.
Los Angeles’ Justus Proffit followed up last year’s impressive collaborative album with San Francisco’s Jay Som with his debut solo effort, L.A.’s Got Me Down, in March of this year on New Jersey’s Bar None Records. His sharpest work to date, L.A.’s Got Me Down explores dark, tumultuous themes amongst aggressively charged punk tones. Local lo-fi garage-surf four-piece Dig Nitty is also on the bill, along with anti-folk trio Dirt Buyer. Singer-songwriter Turtlenecked, who released his latest EP Springtime In Hell in December of 2018, will open the show.
