Brooklyn Mirage Cancelled Thievery Corporation’s Big Show

We just wanted to dance!

For all of you ravers and rollers who were excited to East Williamsburg for Thievery Corporation and Rob Garza to pump up the bass so you could dance until you pass out, here’s some bad news: this show is cancelled. According to a statement by temporary event space Brooklyn Mirage, the Department of Buildings has “rescinded [their] permit pending new review.”

Brooklyn Mirage, put on by CityFox, has been having difficulty with the city since its opening weekend this year. They were first busted by the 90th Precinct on May 24th for selling liquor without proper licensing: DNAinfo reported that the venue exceeded the amount of permits per year by applying for the wrong licenses.

The venue has also been cited for unsafe conditions. Inspectors found “wooden platforms and decks that didn’t appear structurally sound, gas piping that had been installed without a permit, extension cords being used instead of permanent wiring, plywood structures that weren’t fire-rated and no evacuation plan for the site.”

As over 1900 people planned to attend Brooklyn Mirage events, its understandable that the DOB shut it down: it sounds like a death trap.

The venue’s Facebook page was littered with complaints about not receiving ticket email confirmations: the venue was prepared to refund ticketholders 30% back when it looked like they were going to have to host liquorless shows, but now that their main event is off, they’ll be giving full refunds.

The excitement for the 20th anniversary show of Thievery Corporation has turned into widespread frustration, and CityFox and Brooklyn Mirage are taking another l.
