Hundreds of Bushwick residents take to the streets today to protest deplorable living conditions faced by members of our own community.

Just before noon today, join more than 200 Bushwick residents, elected officials, small business owners, and clergy to protest unfair housing practices in our community and many others just like it.

Make the Road New York, one of the march’s organizers, states that the march is specifically aimed at protesting the “vacancy bonus” landlords can use to jack up rent by 20% when a rent controlled apartment comes back on the market. Rules like that give landlords incentives to force longtime residents out.

This march is sure to be a loud call to Albany lawmakers ultimately responsible for making sure housing becomes more accessible for people who have seen their borough go through huge changes in the past ten years.

Those interested in seeing democracy in action can meet at the MRNY offices at 301 Grove St at 11:30am. The march will end in a press conference at 300 Suydam St.
