Residents of a three-story building on Locust Street in Bushwick were forced out into the cold during the early hours of Saturday morning by a fire which has made their home unsuitable for occupancy.

Firefighters responded to a call for help at 25 Locust, between Broadway and Beaver Street, shortly before 8am on Saturday morning, a day on which temperatures in New York City dropped as low as seven degrees.

All residents safely escaped the blaze and none needed medical attention, officials say, but the Office of Emergency Management has placed a full vacate order on the premises which remains in effect three days later.

The cause of the fire remains under FDNY investigation.
