The filming of an upcoming pilot of HBO mini-series titled “The Deuce” has been underway at several NYC locations including our home sweet Bushwick.
The Deuce is set in nowadays very popular New York of late 1970’s and it explores the seedy underworld of Time Square during the rise of porn industry, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewal of real estate market. The story follows the career of twin brothers (both played by James Franco) who “were players in the Times Square world and became fronts for mob control of the volatile and lucrative sex industry,” wrote Variety.

As a couple of you noted on social media and as confirmed by a waitress at Bushwick’s old-fashioned Tina’s Diner (1002 Flushing Ave, Bushwick) the production has rented their establishment for filming yesterday. The filming is scheduled to continue in October in one of the apartments at Noll St. Several residents have received a letter from a location scout. “We are currently seeking an APARTMENT to film at later this fall. If you have received this letter, it’s because we think your property has the right look for the project,” the letter read.

So now we wonder if the fact that you live in an apartment that has the right look for a 1970’s porn drama can be construed as a compliment. But for the sake of the bragging rights, let’s assume that it is a good thing indeed…
Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal was also cast to appear in the series alongside Franco. She will play a Times Square hooker with the street name “Candy” who is drawn into the fledgling porn industry. The Deuce has been filming in Chelsea on Friday and several photos of James Franco in a very 1970s outfit with a bushy moustache and longer hair leaked on the Internet. The actor himself has been bragging with his moustache on his Instagram.
Posting that 70s style before all the paparazzi photos come out. ????the deuce????

James Franco is not new or shy of porn industry. His movie “Interior. Leather Bar” was screened at last year’s NYC Porn Festival held in Bushwick this past March.
