We all know Topos Bookstore as a cozy cafe tucked into a residential Ridgewood corner. But tonight, the bookworms are coming out of their shells to launch a press with an inaugural chapbook about break ups at Honey’s.
The 50 page book “It Was Over When You Said What” includes the work of 13 writers “who furrow the texture of the months, days, and heartbeats when they realized [their relationships] were over.” Each piece deals with the nearly inevitable demise of those fiery first love feelings. And the only plus of this perpetually wet weather is how much it will contribute to the overall gloomy mood.
Readers include Mitra Kaboli, Madeline Coleman, Drew Nelles, Artemis Shaw, Kira Josefsson, Julie Alsop, Anny Oberlink and more.
In addition to readings from the book, the party at Honey’s will serve as the official launch of Topos Press, a press so new, it doesn’t even have a website yet.
Come experience equal parts joy and melancholy with sweet, complex meads from Honey’s and sad tunes from DJ Max Pearl. Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
