If you’re the kind of entrepreneurial free spirit whose tax preparation process can get as messy as your studio or home office, a December 8 workshop hosted by Bushwick’s credit union will help you get ready to file your 2016 taxes with confidence and ease.
Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union, which is open in the neighborhood at 1474 Myrtle Avenue off of the Myrtle-Wyckoff stop on the L and M trains, will hold the workshop this coming Thursday, December 8 at 6 p.m. at the credit union’s Bed-Stuy location (834 DeKalb Avenue at Throop Avenue, near the Myrtle-Willougby stop on the G train).
All freelancers, from artists and musicians to house cleaners and food venders to childcare providers and Uber drivers, are invited to the workshop, which will cover the basics of freelance taxes, including the pros and cons of declaring cash income, how and why to track and calculate expenses, how to take the home office deduction, and how and why to set up and make quarterly tax payments.
The event is free and is provided as part of BK Coop’s Small Business Workshop Series: other upcoming events in the series will include Tax Tips for Small Businesses, Tax Tips for Rental Income (including AirBnB), Bookkeeping 101, and How to Choose a Small Business Designation.
RSVP by calling 718-418-8232 x2122 or emailing [email protected]—and here’s the Facebook event.
We’ll see you there, Bushwick!
