Explore Coloring as Self-Care With The Real Art Therapists of New York at Brooklyn Kava

Be honest: do you really know what art therapy consists of?

A member of a New York City collective of 50 creative arts therapists has launched a monthly pop up event at Bushwick’s first kava spot, offering the public an opportunity to relax and trying out coloring as a self-care practice while learning about the benefits of art therapy.

The free, drop-in coloring event is for people of all ages and tis put on by Juanita Viera, one of the Licensed Creative Arts Therapists who make up The Real Art Therapists of NY, a group which published an eponymous coloring book this past spring.

The pop up comes to Suydam Street hangout Brooklyn Kava on the first Sunday of each month (the next one will take place on October 2).

“It is an initiative to raise awareness about the difference between coloring for self-care and having a session with an art therapist,” explains Viera. “As part of the initiative, we host coloring pop-up events at different venues throughout the city to spread awareness about art therapy but also to promote wellness and self-care.”

Take advantage of the opportunity to relax and appreciate the therapeutic effects of the creative session and plan on joining them next time!
