Cue The Contours’ “Do You Love Me!”
Bushwick hotspot Our Wicked Lady is planning a perfect party for the final days of the summer: on Thursday, September 8th, an affair inspired by the 1987 classic “Dirty Dancing” will take over the rooftop bar, complete with a screening of the movie, a DJ set featuring the songs of the summer that informed the film’s soundtrack, a movie trivia contest and a themed cocktail special.
Attendees, who are encouraged to dress for the occasion (in either ’60s-era resort wear or 80’s-era dance rehearsal style), should arrive around 8 p.m. and can expect to stay out as late at 3 a.m. at this shindig.
Johnny and Penny weren’t available to provide dance instruction, so the public is responsible for bringing their own showstopping moves this time around: there will most definitely be a dance-off, and you don’t want anyone to try and put you in a corner!
And the cocktail special? It’s an “I carried a watermelon” margarita.
The party comes on the heels of Our Wicked Lady’s delightful summer screening series, which included weekly “Two Movie Tuesdays” on the roof. Tonight, the Steve Martin vehicles “Three Amigos” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” play back to back.
In coming weeks, the films lined up will pay homage to Guy Ritchie (“Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” play back to back on Tuesday, September 6th), Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Amélie” and “City of Lost Children” play on September 20th, and the American high school movie genre (“The Breakfast Club” and “Rock and Roll High School” will be shown on September 27th).
See you out there, Bushwick!
