With the recent launch of screening series at Our Wicked Lady, The Bushwick Generator and Nowadays, the Bushwick area’s outdoor film offerings have been rapidly expanding lately. And soon, another joint will join those ranks when a new film series takes over a massive warehouse rooftop.
Rooftop Cinema Club, the London based rooftop film series that launched at YOTEL New York in Midtown last year, is preparing to launch an East Williamsburg outpost, kicking off their season on Tuesday, June 7th with Spike Lee’s beloved masterpiece “Do the Right Thing.”
Screenings will take place atop the 15,000-square-foot roof of Office Ops, a studio and event space on Thames and Knickerbocker off the Morgan Ave stop on the L train. While entrance is a steep $19 it’s because Rooftop Cinema Club aims to be a cut above: All moviegoers will be provided with high quality wireless headphones and comfy deck chairs. It’s BYO drink, so pack your favorites and make use of the frosted glasses and mixers. Popcorn and candy will be available to purchase on site, with more food vendors to be announced.
Among the scheduled movies for the summer are not one but two tributes to some of the greats we lost this year: “Labyrinth,” starring David Bowie, will play on June 8th, while “Purple Rain” will show on June 9th.
Other stellar film picks include “Spice World,” “Coming to America” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” You can find the June schedule of movies, screened four days a week, here. While all movies start at 8:30 pm, the rooftop is open from 5pm.
