It’s been eight years since the collaboration on Yoleros has started among several outstanding artists, playwrights and directors. Created by Teatrica Theater Company, Yoleros is an imaginative and complex telling of the story of three immigrants seeking a better future, which is written entirely in Spanish and will be performed with live English subtitles.
The play received an award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast by the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA).
Teatrica Theater Company in collaboration with Brooklyn Gypsies, is looking to bring the play to The Bushwick Starr theater (207 Starr St) to be in front of a mixed Spanish and English speaking audience on December 17-19.
“We seek to serve communities that lack access to cultural arts programs and to spread the importance and benefits of theater to often under-served Spanish-speaking audiences. We also seek to engage English-speakers in the tradition of Latino theater to deepen their understanding of the experiences of their close neighbors who often live across language barriers,” reads their campaign description at their Indiegogo page.
As you can imagine, the production of a play is a costly affair, and so the creators and actors of the play are asking all of us to contribute to crowdfunding campaign to raise $3,000. The amount will cover props, costumes, set design and stipends for 10 members of the cast. Support them by donating here.
