Maybe you’re a queer kiddo lookin’ to cut a rug in a room full of gender-non-conforming cuties. Maybe you’ve been itchin’ to explore a new LGBTQ space. Or maybe your straight friends are suuuuuper set on going to that bar with those people who are, TBH, more than a little homophobic and you’re looking for an excuse not to join. Fear not my queer brothers and sisters, I’ve got the lowdown on the week’s best LGBTQ events going on in and near Bushwick.
Drink-n-Draw & SKETCH @ Lovegun (TUE 7:30PM & 10PM, $free)
617 Grand Street, Williamsburg
Join a crew of queer artists this Tuesday night at Lovegun for Drink-n-Draw, a weekly event that pretty much explains itself. Whether you’re a seasoned artiste or a beginner, grab some art supplies, and a $4 well drink, and spend the night sketching away. According to the event’s fb page, the cast of colorful live models will include “Drag Queens and Kings, muscle boys, fetish models, Burlesque Dancers, Circus Freaks, Theatrical Performers, Rock Stars and other fascinating subjects!”
Afterwards, stick around for SKETCH with queens Daphne Sumtimez and Scarlet Envy who will be bringing you titillating performances and “bad advice from that sketchy corner of the bar.”
Alotta Trivia @ Metropolitan Bar (WED 8-10PM, $free)
559 Lorimer St, Williamsburg
Grab some friends, and a pun-rifically dirty team name, and head over to Metropolitan bar Wednesday night for a rousing evening of trivia. Hosted by queen Alotta McGriddles, this weekly trivia night focuses on a different theme each week. This week’s theme is “Disney,” so if you wanna win drink tickets and other prizes, polish up on your glass-slippered and thinga-ma-bobby factoids!
DRAGnet @ Metropolitan Bar (THU 11 PM, $free)
559 Lorimer St, Williamsburg
If you’re in the mood for a fierce drag competition, stop by DRAGnet on Thursday evening. Every week, the newest talent in Brooklyn duke it out to prove that they’ve got what it takes to be the next drag sensation. The event is hosted by Merrie Cherry, a drag sensation in her own right, and will include a bevy of electric performances and drink specials.
Bushwick Pride (SAT 12PM, $free)
301 Grove St, Bushwick
Join members of the Bushwick queer community for the 10th annual Bushwick Pride event this Saturday, starting with a march at noon. After the march, there will be a block party happening on Menahan St (between Knickerbocker and Myrtle Aves), which will include performances and a BBQ. This year’s theme is “anti-gentrification,” so get ready to socialize and politicize alongside some of the most important LGBTQ movers and shakers in Bushwick.
Queer Wrestling Workshop @ The Spectrum (SAT 1-3PM, $donation)
59 Montrose Ave, East Williamsburg
If you’re looking for a fun and interesting queer day event, look no further than the Queer Wrestling Workshop happening this Saturday at The Spectrum. The event is open to novices and expert grapplers alike and will go over the basics of friendly submission wrestling. So, if you’re in the mood to get a lil handsy with some new friends, stop by. It’s a donation-based workshop, so pay what you can–no one will be turned away for lack of funds!
Sunday Night BBQ & STRAYS @ Metropolitan Bar (SUN 3PM, $free)
559 Lorimer St, Williamsburg
What’s better than a $10 pitcher of beer? A $10 pitcher of beer that also happens to come with a free meal, which is the deal you’ll snag at Metro every Sunday at their weekly BBQ. Join a large crowd of LGBTQ folks in Metro’s awesome backyard for an ol’ fashioned picnic of that’s as fun as the ones you used to go on with your family, but gayer and with all the sausage you can eat 😉
Stay afterwards for their party, STRAYS, “a party for people who like the off nights. The weirdos. Cat dancers. Hoarders.”
