Let’s raise the roof this Saturday rain or shine for a new mini festival Bushwick Balooza hosted by Subtierra Sounds.
Bushwick Balooza will be filled with music, food, games, and of course dancing. It is coming down this Saturday at Lot 45 starting at 3pm, and moves to The Shop at 7pm.
Daniel Halper and Adam Belfer founded an event production company Subtierra Sounds about six months ago, and have been running monthly artistic showcase in various Brooklyn apartments for the past six months; Bushwick Balooza is their largest scale event to date.
The evening includes a yoga session at 3pm lead by Hayden Stebbins and continues with live music from eight eclectic bands and DJs. You can expect also locally curated and catered Brooklyn eats and a communal arts project.
Daniel Halper told us that he guarantees “a peaceful, fulfilling start to the long day of music so that everyone can start spreading good vibes!”
“The eclectic lineup has been planned with the goal of creating a festival that incorporates many sounds, vibes, and experiences for all attendees,” explained Daniel. The wide range of artists and genres includes Blues (Aaron Frazer), Folk Rock (David Rothschild & The Downtown Local), Indie Rock (Hot Curl, Moziac, and Rann), Hip Hop (Pen Ultimate), Raggaetronic (We Chief), Deep House & Blues (Jay xero), and my alternative soul band (AFK Trio).
The food will be provided by the Kangaroo Jew, a duo who came together to create an unlikely sandwich making pair. With a Hebrew and an Aussie behind the chef’s table who knows what delicious treats will appear on Saturday! After 7pm, the party moves to The Shop Brooklyn, the new(ish) BBQ and bar joint, which will be serving up eats and drinks.
100% of the proceeds raised through the ticket sales will go towards supporting non-profit organizations Urban Arts Partnership and Ghetto Film School, dedicated to arts & music education in NYC’s underserved communities.
“UAP is a leading non-profit in this space, bringing arts teachers into NYC public schools to provide such education. My co-organizer Adam works in film, and feels just as passionately about education and opportunity for students whose dreams lie in film. Ghetto Film School is an award-winning, independent film organization with the mission to educate, develop, and celebrate the next generation of great American storytellers with operations in the South Bronx,” explained Daniel. Both non-profits will have representatives at the event to provide more information on how to get involved.
So not only are you supporting your own good soul vibes but you will be spreading the love!
“Subtierra Sounds is all about the love of music, the arts, and collaboration. With this event, we’re just hoping to create a unique experience for the Subtierra Sounds community that brings artists and art lovers together for a magical day,” concluded Daniel.
Bushwick Balooza, June 13 from 3pm to 11:45pm at Lot 45, 411 Troutman St (3-7pm) and at The Shop Brooklyn, 234 Starr St (7-late). Tickets $10-15.
