Karol G, the Colombian pop star who in April became the first Latin woman to headline Coachella, posted a photo on Friday of herself blowing bubbles inside Salsamentaria La Milagrosa, a Colombian bar that opened in August on the corner of Harrison Place and Porter Avenue in Bushwick.
The post had nearly 1.7 million likes by Sunday afternoon. Its caption does not mention the bar. In it, Karol G wrote that “BbY Wow” has spent more days at No. 1 on Spotify’s global chart than any other song this year.
La Milagrosa announced her visit on Instagram on Sept. 22: “Es oficial, La Milagrosa ya tiene la bendición de la Bichota,” or “It’s official, La Milagrosa has the Bichota’s blessing,” using her nickname. In the photo the bar posted, she poses with four women beneath a message written on the wall in marker and signed “Karol G”: “La Milagrosa, chimba de parche. Las adoro.” In Colombian slang that is, roughly, “La Milagrosa, an awesome hangout. I adore you all.”
Saque, who played music at the bar for her, wrote on Instagram that it was “un domingo tranqui,” a quiet Sunday.
Karol G was born and raised in Medellín. La Milagrosa was founded by four women from the same city, and it identifies as women-, Latino- and LGBTQ+-owned. The bar serves Colombian food and drink, including empanadas, pastel de pollo, salchipapas and a Panelazo cocktail, and it books DJs and live music.
The post went up the same day The New York Times released an hourlong Popcast interview in which Karol G discussed her stadium tour, headlining Coachella and “BbY Wow.”
Salsamentaria La Milagrosa is at 112 Harrison Place, about 800 feet east of the Morgan Avenue L station. It opens at noon every day and closes at midnight Monday through Wednesday and at 2 a.m. or later Thursday through Sunday. On Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 8 p.m., the bar hosts a free swap fair that is also collecting money and clothing for rebuilding in Buenaventura, Colombia, after an earthquake.
