Burglar Breaks Into Bushwick’s Bunna Cafe on New Year’s Day

Not everyone turns a new leaf for the new year. A burglar was caught on camera smashing the glass door of Bunna Cafe, an Ethiopian eatery in Bushwick, on the morning of Jan. 1, 2019. The New Year’s Day burglar successfully made off with the restaurant’s iPad and a bundle of cash from the register.

According to a restaurant employee, the burglar was able to avoid alarming the early morning cooks. The kitchen staff was already busy prepping to notice any sounds coming from the front of the house.

The employee, arriving a few minutes after the incident happened at 8:45 a.m., notified the owner immediately. The staff suspected that someone had broken into the restaurant. It was only after the owner came and opened the register that the restaurant realized the cash was long gone.

“He came in and he opened the register, took the money and just walked out,” the employee told Bushwick Daily. The police told the restaurant that they would send someone over to conduct a fingerprint analysis but, according to the staff, no one has showed up yet.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police.
