Raw Distractions by Cheryl Georgette

Some may still be rubbing the post-CMJ show slumber from their eyes after having a pretty packed last week, but this weather makes it hard not to push through the exhaustion and hit up some of the awesome events that are soon taking place in Bushwick.

One last-minute event not to miss tonight is the closing of Brooklyn-based photographer Cheryl Georgette’s show, “Tight in a Bud” at Alt Citizen‘s space, Alt Space, off the Montrose L stop. Cheryl Georgette’s first solo exhibition features music photography which has been edited using analog techniques and then developed in a dark room. She then manipulates the photos with paint and collage, creating a hypnotizing, entrancing effect which ultimately has the viewer nostalgic for shows that they may have not even attended. Many of Cheryl’s works feature music favorites such as Mac Demarco, Zola Jesus and more and if her work looks familiar to you that is because it can usually be seen in publications such as Interview Mag, Vice, Alt Citizen, Impose as well as a bunch of others.

In conjunction with the closing reception, Phil Gomez of Alt Citizen and Cheryl will be celebrating the release of a very special zine they have been working on that features model/actress Melanie Gaydos. So, if you’re looking to start your weekend tonight, stop by Alt Space between the hours of 6 – 8PM, take in some awesome photography vibes and support a local zine!
