I went to Taste of Bushwick on Tuesday. My jealousy of “Tuesday me” is ripe. There was a moment when I clutched a Sixpoint Sweet Action AND a bourbon bacon bloody mary from Cafe Ghia in one hand, Mominette’s James River oysters setting atop Tchoup Shop’s watermelon/shrimp ceviche in the other. This moment was succeeded by a half hilarious, half pathetic juggly dance to get even one of these things in my mouth without putting anything down. The awkward glutton shuffle was a shared experience that the crowd’s bbq sauce grins betrayed acceptance.

I remember “Tuesday me” as a happy person, gorged on Umi’s mock pork banh mi Bunwiches and Montana’s pulled pork over cheese grits. “Yesterday me” was a person gleeful in the lifestyle of consuming Maite’s pannacotta chased with Owney’s delicious rum cocktails. “Yesterday me” totally laughs at  soggy cornflake breakfast of “today me” whilst remembering Archie’s surprisingly good pizza, Hops & Hock’s ham (so tender and salty en crute with pickle) and Los Tres Hermanos‘ tacos sweet as a mariachi’s mournful wail.

“Yesterday me” is a smug asshole (but I’d gladly eat his leftovers.)
