Shake it off, commands New York City’s “Global Welcome Ambassador for Tourism,” the completely manufactured Tay Swift. While the urge to move to LA is now a greater pull than ever (followed only by the urge to vomit) we have to admit that times are a-changing in NYC. Lucky for (most of) us, we live in BROOKLYN.  From our place across the river, we can stand up for what we believe in, which, this weekend, includes Electronic Music Festivals, free shows, and a tiki party/luau/rock show. Best of all, T. Swift ain’t invited. Shake that off, BETCH, and go have a $13 pickleback in TriBeCa.

#6 Wet Leather, Thick & Great Woods @ Cobra Club, 6 Wyckoff Ave (SUN 8:30PM, $FREE)

Sunday night celebrate the release of very enjoyable local pop band Wet Leather’s first EP, Past Lives, with a free show at Cobra Club!

#5 Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival @ Various Venues (THU-SUN, $55 Day Tickets, $100 Festival Pass)

This year, BEMF is going hard, with pre-parties, after-parties, oh, and the concerts that make up the majority of the party time. Featuring upwards of 50 electronic groups and DJs, the festival takes over Output, Baby’s All Right, Verboten, Cameo, Glasslands, and hey, they’ve even got a party going on at 215 Ingraham in Bushwick. If you wanna party, this is your best option this weekend.

#4 Bodega Bay, Veda Rays, Life Size Maps, Loves Spread @ 230 Grand St (FRI 7PM, $5)

Head over to Grand Street to experience a “Post-Industrial Neo-Organic Future”…whatever the heck that means… featuring a whole bunch of Bushwick bands doing their thang!

#3 PC Worship, Horse Lords, Voice Coils @ Trans Pecos 915 Wyckoff Ave (THURS 9PM, $?)

Not exactly a traditional concert (buy hey, what really is traditional about Trans Pecos anyway?), tonight’s show promises a lot of noise, perhaps some discomfort, and a hearty helping of goosebumps… bring your earplugs.

#2 Iron Chic, Beach Slang,Blessed State, Collect Yourself @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar 165 Banker St (SAT 8pm, $FREE)

Don’t miss this very impressive lineup of up-and-comers playing their sludgy rock hearts of for free on Saturday evening! As Patrick from Oh My Rockness says, stick around for the headliners “…because when Iron Chic’s crunchy melodic guitars get going – nothing can stop them or us.”

#1 High Waisted Tiki Party w/ Las Rosas and The Mystery Lights @ Kings County Bar 1 Knickerbocker Ave (SUN 2PM, $25)

This Sunday, we’re all going to a LUAU. This tiki themed party’s tickets are around $25 and include your portion of a pig roast, an ice cream sandwich, a tiki punch, and live music from 3 our our fave badass rock bands. Plus, there will be girls in hula skirts and potentially some nudity. What more could you want in a show? More info here.
