From the culinary genius that brought you the Pabellon Arepa (shredded beef, white salty cheese, sweet plantains, oh my!) comes a selection of beautiful Venezuelan hot dogs for your late night snacking. Leonardo Melinas has expanded his Venezuelan street food empire to offer up Guacuco Hot Dogs on Starr St, right next door to the Sampler.

Guacuco Hotdogs opened their doors a few weeks back, but now they’re ready to kick it up a notch with their grand opening party this Friday. If you haven’t already stopped by to check out this place, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to give it a try.

They’ve got some cool South American beers on tap, including a delicious dark lager, Xingu Black Beer. They’re also selling Venezuelan sodas. And they don’t just do hot dogs. In fact, they have a totally formidable hamburger menu that can’t be overlooked and a selection of off-the-wall appetizers, like pork ribs infused with passion fruit and a mini cachapa that will knock your socks off.

The menu was designed by Leo’s mother, just as it is over at the original Guacuco. This time, she’s bringing you a little taste of Venezuelan street food. The hot dogs are designed to efficiently and deliciously soak up an end-of-the-night beer. The only real challenge will be deciding which of their tasty, house made sauces to drizzle over your meat tube, which is tucked in a succulent potato bun.

Guacuco Hotdogs has a slightly more laid back vibe than its arepan counterpart. Two televisions and a large bar provide a friendly, festive vibe, and you can bet they’ll be playing the World Cup here come June. It’s the perfect place to grab a little food (try the Mercedes hot dog, it’s amazing!) and a Venezuelan soda and while away a summer afternoon watching soccer and chatting up Leonardo.

Guacuco Hotdogs is located at 234 Starr St. They’re open till 3 AM on weekends and 2 AM on weeknights, seven days a week.
