This week’s Friday First features the exclusive premiere of “Soft Words” from New York indie rock group Stargazy and their second EP The Fashion, out May 27th. Friday First is a weekly column devoted to premiering new music from local, national, and international artists.

The Stargazy sextet consists of Michael Romano (lead vocals, guitar), Jared Lindbloom (vocals, keys), Michael Panico (guitar, keys), Alex Shifrin (bass), Brian Garbedian (drums), and Rocco Romanelli (auxiliary percussion). The group crafts dense, reverberated sounds in their newest track, “Soft Words,” guiding listeners with constant, anthemic choruses.  The impassioned vocals repeat  “when the talk is through, it breaks my heart in two,” and are draped in a shimmering cascade of guitar chords. Stargazy has supremely assembled the track’s elements – emphatic drum thumps, fluid grooves and stirring vocals – to create a seamless, smooth and emotive number. “Soft Words” is a flawless heartbreak ballad for the modern day.  A bit moody, yet still high energy, this sonic sensation will have listeners nostalgic for the epic sounds of Radiohead and Muse. We love it.

Hooked? Be sure to catch Stargazy and the rest of their new material at their upcoming EP release party at Rough Trade NYC, Friday May 16th!
