Wayward Social, the bar that took over the old Alaska location earlier this summer, has rarely a dull moment these days. Between dirt cheap drink prices, hosting weekly dance parties, larger one-off events, art shows, open mics, live music, and trivia, there is something for everyone.
Here are the offerings patrons can expect on a weekly basis:
Mondays, 9 p.m.: The “open mic meets open jam session” called Death Pussy hosted by local musicians Taylor Plas and Zac Messick. Every week is a different theme so guests are encouraged to dress and pick the music accordingly! Up next week: outer space.
Tuesdays: Soon to come trivia nights hosted by NYC Trivia League.
Wednesday, 10 p.m.: Queer and drag queen party Rebel Yell. It’s hosted by Madame Vivien V and DJ’d by Cameron Cole, with an extra guest DJ every week. Expect go-go dancers on the bar and debauchery late into the night.
Fridays and Saturdays: Live DJs!
Wayward Social also throws occasional movie nights and themed party, and hosts live music: Coming up at the end of the month is a Halloween party in partnership with tattoo shop Body Art & Soul. Everyone on the list for their Halloween flash tattoo special can hit up the bar afterwards for happy hour prices all night long.
The bar also supports local visual artists. The walls are adorned with a rotating show, and all the pieces are for sale. If you are an artist interested in being featured at Wayward Social, reach out on their social media accounts linked below.
The bar has not changed drastically from the Alaska days, but it has definitely come into its own as a bar and venue.
As owner Michael Rabasco says: “we kept it as true to what the previous bar was; we didn’t change much of anything, just cleaned it up a little bit.” Living in Bushwick himself, he wants to stay true to the neighborhood.
Head down to Wayward Social pretty much any night of the week and you are promised a wild time!
