Get ready this May because the Red Bull Music Academy Festival is back with select dates in the Bushwick area! Bounce Ballroom will take place May 1 at Brooklyn Bazaar in what will be a booty shaking extravaganza featuring 4 dance crews + 4 dance styles + 4 DJs. And on May 16, Hardcore Activity In Progress will be held at the spectacular Knockdown Center with an extreme sampling of artists in a variety of genres. In 2013, Red Bull Music Academy set up shop in NYC. They’ve put on an incredible amount of events throughout the city, including a show last May at Knockdown Center- which we covered here– featuring Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. You can expect more of the same at this year’s event, with a wild lineup that includes artists in “metal, techno, jazz, noise, classical, hip hop and beyond”.
The May 1 show at Brooklyn Bazaar will kick off the festival, which also features a public lecture with D’Angelo, a street party celebrating dance music legend Larry Levan, David Byrne paying homage to William Onyeabor, and much more. Make sure to keep it here for more info on those free tix!
