We adore summer, but fall, especially in Bushwick, is something else! It marks the return of fantastic cultural events our neighborhood is so famous for. We put together a list of 14 wonderful events which are going down this month and should not be missed!

Note that we reached out to the coolest neighborhood organizations and invited them to participate in this post for a small fee. We listed them in the order in which we received them. 

🎭 See a smash musical hit directed by a Bushwick resident!

What: Let There Be Stuff!

When: Sept. 12, 14, 15 at 7 p.m. 

Where: The Kraine Theater, 85 E 4th St., New York

Description: Bushwick's own Jay Winston Gill brings back his smash hit musical comedy Let There Be Stuff!

Description: Traditional filmmaking workshops on actual film! Join MONO NO AWARE and friends this Fall for an incredible filmmaking experience on Super 8mm, 16mm or 35mm. F I L M ! Affordable workshops are led by local artists and filmmakers. Description: Kings County Brewers Collective, the first brewery to brew beer in Bushwick in 40 years, is celebrating their first year anniversary. 👧🏽 Watch Gotham Girls play roller derby in Sweden while brunching!

What: Gotham Girls Roller Derby Viewing Party & Brunch

When: Sept. 9 and 10 at noon

Where: Dromedary Bar, 266 Irving Ave., Bushwick

Description: Gotham Girls Roller Derby will be in Sweden to partake in the playoffs. Dromedary Bar will have the league in for a special brunch featuring their new chef Decadent Dale. Games start at noon both days. Promised is also commentary by the league staff for those unfamiliar with the sport.

🇨🇺 Dance your pants off at Cuban Prohibition party!

What: Cuban Prohibition Party

Description: On Friday, Sept. 15, head to Dromedary Bar for a Cuban Prohibition party, hosted by Cutty Sark. There will be gogo dancers, Cutty Sark tiki cocktails prepared and created by Dromedary Bar, Cuban inspired fare and a Cuban jazz DJ all night!!

🎤 Attend a Karaoke Breast Cancer Fundraiser!

When: Sept. 21 at 8 p.m.

Description: Go help raise money for the breast cancer walk in October to Dromedary Bar. There will be free karaoke, and a giant raffle with tons of awesome shit including Dromedary Bar gift certificate, tickets to a sporting event donated by Bayou Rum, a $200 tattoo gift certificate from Bushwick's own Do or Die tattoo shop, drink specials, and Brooklyn Brewery discounts.

When: Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.

Where: Norte Maar, 88 Pine St. Brooklyn

Description: Norte Maar presents a solo exhibition of new paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Max Estenger from September 9 to October 15. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 6-9 p.m. and thereafter the gallery will be open on weekends from 12 to 6 p.m. and by appointment through Oct. 15.

🍃 Help clean up Bushwick's beloved Maria Hernandez Park!

Where: Maria Hernandez Park, Knickerbocker Avenue, Bushwick

Description: Help Keep Bushwick Beautiful this September! The next event will be cleaning up trash, weeding, and topping off wood chips on trees at the park. There will be a local sponsor for FREE FOOD and DRINK. There will also be FREE T-SHIRTS generously donated by Silky's Brooklyn!

🍩 Go on a scavenger hunt for art through Bushwick's bodegas!

WhatATM Cigarettes Flowers Lottery/God Bless Deli 2

When: Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., Sept. 30 and Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.

Where: 1283 Bushwick Ave. (basement), Bushwick

How much: FREE

Description: ATM Cigarettes Flowers Lottery/God Bless Deli 2 explores the dynamic of the bodega aesthetically and theoretically. Bodegas feed addiction and desire, providing sustenance in the form of Philly Cheesesteaks, honey buns, lottery tickets, pantyhose, condoms, and ramen. Their accessibility and uniformity allows for consistency and shelter and camaraderie--24 hours a day. Each bodega takes on the unique form and identity of its owners, employees, customers, and surrounding neighborhoods, resulting in a bodega which is as rich and culturally diverse. This art show takes place simultaneously at two Brooklyn galleries: Wayfarers Gallery and Space Heater Gallery. An interactive scavenger hunt will take place on opening night, leading visitors through bodegas on a search for artwork, as they walk from one gallery to the other.

WhatLPR Presents: Rubblebucket Dream Picnic

Description: Go bid farewell to summer with an open-air minifestival, brought to you by LPR Presents and Rubblebucket. Dream Picnic features performances by Rubblebucket, Delicate Steve, Hess is More, Alexander F, and Kalbells. There will be outdoor yoga, crafts, sound baths by Maraliz Campos and a pop-up food stand by Kalmia. Dress to lounge! 

🎨 Hang out at an all-day immersive art show!

WhatUNRULY Collective Fall Art Show

When: Sept. 23 from noon

Where: UNRULY Collective 200 Cooper St., Bushwick

Description: UNRULY Collective is excited to present 15 artists (local and international) for an all-day immersive experience which will takeover UNRULY's entire brownstone! The event will also feature LIVE musical acts and dance performances in their magnificent backyard (pictured)! Refreshing drinks, cocktails, and snacks will also be provided!

Description: Brooklyn, NY - Tokyo underground is making its way Bushwick. The Collision team aims to expose cities across the globe to Japan’s underground music and culture by curating line-ups of Japanese and local artists with a desire to foster connections between the U.S. and Japan. You will experience Anabel Englund, a DJ set by Shigeto (Ghostly International) and a vinyl set by Lewis Beck (InHouse Records/Audiophile Deep) among many other upcoming local artists. Expect a curated selection of visual artwork and F&B collaborations. WhatTranscending Spaces: A Literary & Aerial Spectacular

When: Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Muse, 350 Moffat St., Ridgewood

Description: Brought to you by H.I.P. Lit, VIDA: Women in Literary Arts, and The Rumpus, expect Transcending Spaces to be nothing short of a riveting night of readings from a diverse cast of writers, including: Hala Alyan, Alana Massey, Alissa Nutting, Téa Obreht, and Camille Rankine; emceed by comedian and writer Elissa Bassist. In collaboration with The Muse, this event will also feature a stellar set of aerial performances, creating a powerful intersection between page and sky for what's sure to be a truly memorable celebration of creativity and community.
