A Bushwick council member has sponsored a bill to help keep things clean and green during the L train shutdown. But hopefully not like this:

Councilman Rafael Espinal, who reps part of Bushwick’s 37th district, has sponsored a bill that calls upon Governor Cuomo and the MTA to commit to an electric bus fleet and use electric buses as a major part of the replacement service during the upcoming L train shutdown, according to a press release.

“The L train shutdown, which was caused by climate change must not be dealt with by burning dirty fossil fuels into the air of our communities,” said Espinal. “What will already be a huge inconvenience to 200,000 New Yorkers cannot also be a huge blow to our environment and air quality. It is time the MTA commits to electric buses during the L train crises and into the future as part of its permanent bus fleet.”

Espinal will join transportation and environmental advocates today at noon on the steps of City Hall to host a press conference announcing an upcoming hearing of the bill on Thursday.
