It truly has been a mild winter so far. A few cold spells – but for the most part we shouldn’t complain. Even so, we’ve all been there – a Friday night in January … contemplating whether to ‘brace the elements’ or to binge-watch the entire Making of a Murderer series.

Although the latter is tempting, Bushwick Daily (and this gif of our beloved David Bowie) are here to help you get out and have some fun. Let’s start with some motivating news — Friday and Saturday have the highest temperatures this week! Now that it’s confirmed you won’t turn into an icicle upon leaving your apartment, here’s our top shows of the week to spark some heat and start your new year right.

#9 What Moon Things, Punt, Brat Curse and No Friends @ Aviv, 496 Morgan Ave. Greenpoint (Sun, 8PM, $8)

The perfect DYI venue with exceptional indie rockers. What Moon Things = basically the love child of Modest Mouse and The Pixies.

#8 Joseph Sant, Hotline and CITRIS @ Cake Shop, 152 Ludlow St. New York (Thurs, 8PM, $8)

Venture over the bridge this upcoming Thursday to support some rad Brooklyn-based rock bands. Although this serves as the record release show for Joseph Sant’s dreamy debut Sea White Salt, you’ll also find quite the diversity in sound between Hotline’s melancholic vibes and the female-fronted grunge rock duo CITRIS.

#7 Infinity Girl, Lightning Bug, Beach Moon/Peach Moon and Kid In The Attic @ Muchmore’s, 2 Havemeyer St. Williamsburg (Sat, 9PM, $FREE)

Did we mention this is FREE? Enjoy this stacked lineup while grabbing some of Muchmore’s to-die-for soju cocktails. Plus when the show is over around 12:30 p.m., you’ll already be in the heart of Williamsburg – ready to continue your festivities (cough cough drinking).

#6 Stone Cold Fox, Birch and Hey Anna @ Rough Trade, 64 N 9th St. Williamsburg (Fri, 9PM, $10)

Kicking off the new year, Stone Cold Fox will be showcasing some new material this Friday at Rough Trade. Or in their words they’ve “got some new stuff to showya.” They even promise an M.I.A. “Paper Planes” cover. All three acts are ready to start your weekend with some serious upbeat, pop rock.

#5 METZ, Bully and Big Ups @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, 66 N 6th St. Williamsburg (Thurs, 9PM, $18)

Hailing from Ontario – found sounds, tape loops and the most beautiful chaos you’ll ever hear. It’s METZ, on their U.S. tour, bringing some 90s’ alternative (Bully) and post-punk (Big Ups) along for the ride. Expect it to be loud, angsty and heavy. You won’t want to miss this one.

#4 Ryan Hemsworth, Vashtie, Jasmine Solano and Hu Dat @ Output, 74 Wythe Ave. Williamsburg (Fri, 10PM, $20)

These tickets are going faaaast so get on this electronic r&b dance party while you can. Super eclectic beats from no other than Ryan Hemsworth, who has remixed everyone from Kanye to Grimes. It’ll be experimental and most likely full of fun visuals.

#3 The Knocks, Cardiknox and Sofi Tukker @ Baby’s All Right, 146 Broadway, Williamsburg (Thurs, 9PM, $SOLDOUT)

Welp. I guess everyone knew this show would be amazing, because it is now sold out. But hey! This is your excuse to go to Governor’s Ball now. Still upset? Scour the internet for a bit, maybe pay a little more and you might find a way in.

#2 St. Paul and The Broken Bones @ The Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St. New York (Sat, 8PM, SOLDOUT)

Three words: Rhythm rock & soul. These dudes really bring it all. Produced by Ben Tanner of the Alabama Shakes, this 6-piece Birmingham band has only been around since 2012 and are making serious waves. The show is sold out but Bowery Ballroom is holding a contest to win a pair of tickets. Winners are announced Friday. Good luck!

#1 Ratatat @ Hammerstein Ballroom, 311 West 34th St New York (Thurs, 7PM, $37.50)

The only reason anyone should ever have to trek to Midtown. Ratatat is touring Magnifique – their first album in five years! They’ve been on a touring hiatus for quite a while, so you know the Brooklyn duo is bound to make up for lost time. Grab your friends, grab your moves and start the weekend early.
