Bushwick "Skins" Photo Series Highlights Bright Layers [Upon Layers] of Color

Buildings transform constantly in this city - AKA in this ever-changing neighborhood - and with each new transformation comes a new layer of paint

Instagram Takeover - Stephanie Gould - Bushwick surfaces, painted wall

Buildings transform constantly in this city - AKA in this ever-changing neighborhood - and with each new transformation comes a new layer of paint. "City Skins" is a photo collection that focuses on on just that: New York City's walls (which is actually wayyy cooler than it reads). As time passes, the new paint on buildings wears down and reveals what is hiding beneath, a little piece of history. Stephanie Gould, Bushwick-based visual artist from Melbourne, found inspiration in these layers of paint, the "patterns that form on various urban surfaces over time." She focused her efforts on Bushwick's buildings for her Insta-Takeover, and the resulting photos are textured, abstract, and pop with color. Through the deterioration, we can identify something rich and full of energy.
