This week’s Listening Party features the twisted electronica-folk of Juana Molina and her upcoming show at Le Poisson Rouge.  Listening Party is a curated weekly column promoting music discovery and encouraging concert-going. Featuring someone we’ve been jamming out to and we recommend to the masses, each Listening Party artist has an upcoming show at a local NYC venue. Grab your headphones and read on.

WHO: Juana Molina

THEY SAY: “propulsive acoustic guitar strumming, clanging percussions, dreamy ambient keyboards and then spreads her ethereal voice over the whole blend.

SAY: Hazy, Enchanting, Latin freak folk

FROM: Buenos Aires, Argentina

ONLINE: http://www.juanamolina.com/

LABEL: Domino

RECENT WORK: 2013's spectacular Wed 21

UPCOMING SHOW: This Tuesday (04/15) at LPR

Juana Molina, Argentinian singer and songwriter, brings her experimental sounds to NYC next week. Resemblances to Cat Power's smoky vocals and KT Tunstall's powerful rock ballads come through, but Molina works off of a Latin freak folk palette that's all her own. Traditional folk and dark electronica merge sensually throughout her sounds, and her latest album, Wed 21, is exceptional. Standout track "Eras" ("You Are," in Spanish), a jazzy, rhythmic jaunt with tribal vocals and textural overtones, was deemed best New Song by Pitchfork. Catch her at Le Poisson Rouge next Tuesday, April 15th, with Xenia Rubinos. Tickets are $15 here.
