It's hot out and the gigs are even hotter! Here are some of the best to check out this week in the neighborhood:

Wednesday, June 12

Jeanines, BEX, Charm, Bushies at Trans-Pecos, 8 p.m.

Jeanines

Local twee pop duo Jeanines are on the heels of releasing their highly anticipated debut album, which is set for release June 14 on Slumberland Records. Their sound, as evidenced by the record’s already released three first singles, is the perfect soundtrack to your summer, as it's warmly reminiscent of the sunny DIY pop sounds of acts of Olympia, Washington-based K Records and U.K. label Sarah Records. The show also features two North Carolina-based acts that scratch a similar sunny indie pop itch: Charm, who hail from Greensboro, and BEX, who call Asheville home. Bushies, a fuzzier punk quintet from Westchester County, will open the show.

Thursday, June 13

Nicole Yun, Peel Dream Magazine, Charles Bissell at Alphaville, 8 p.m.

Nicole Yun is best known as the front person and principal songwriter of the great Roanoke, Virginia-based indie rock trio Eternal Summers, but she’s about to share her first ever solo album, “Paper Suit”, on New York’s Kanine Records. This Thursday at Alphaville will serve as the official release show for Yun’s debut solo effort, which features the Britpop-influenced lead single, “Supernatural Babe.” Also performing are Peel Dream Magazine, whose 2018 debut “Modern Meta Physic” earned numerous comparisons to Stereolab, but the record will also delight fans of shoegaze like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.

The legendary Charles Bissell of The Wrens  takes the stage first, and you won’t want to miss him! Bissell recently hinted that he’s wrapping up work on the first Wrens album in over 15 years, so you’ll likely hear a solid combination of classics and brand new material.

Friday, June 14

Chorizo, People’s Court, Flasyd at The Broadway, 8 p.m.

Brooklyn’s favorite spicy sausage band, Chorizo, brings their Spanish language punk songs to The Broadway on Friday night. This lineup also features two fast and ferocious up-and-comers, People’s Court and Flasyd. Though neither group has an official release date just yet, you can sample a snippet of People’s Court’s already tight live set and a set of fiery demos from Flasyd.

Saturday, June 15

The Tins, New Myths, Spooled Up, Dru Cutler at Unit J, 7 p.m.

Buffalo four-piece indie rock/psych pop outfit The Tins are passing through Brooklyn as part of a summer tour to promote their brand new album, “City Lies II.” Scene mainstays New Myths have been spending the early days of summer doing what they do best - putting on a high energy, live show with a set that includes hook-filled anthems like their latest single, “One Good Reason.” Don’t show up too late, as Baltimore power pop act Spooled Up and Unit J founder Dru Cutler are also on the bill.
