2014 is the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese Calendar, so let’s giddy up over to some epic shows that you can tell your children about. Hell, you might even be able to tell your kid about that crazy February night in cold ass Brooklyn when he or she was first conceived. Or, you can use protection. Either way, here are the music shows to get your babymaking on to:

#6 Celestial ShoreFriend RouletteZula @ Baby’s All Right (THU 9PM, $10)

Friend Roulette is having a vinyl baby tonight to be weigh at EP and zero ounces. Their EP will be released with a great lineup that includes some of the freshest talent of the borough, as well as Bushwick staples, Celestial Shore and Zula. Baby’s All Right, a fairly new Williamsburg venue, is sleek, sexy, has great lighting, ambiance, and moderately priced drinks. So don’t sleep. Let’s party!

#5 The Big Takeover, Indaze, The New York Funk Exchange @ Knitting Factory (FRI 8PM, $10-$12)

new york funk exchange

You can’t fake  funk in Brooklyn, and so Knitting Factory has designed a pretty unique experience for a predominantly indie scene. Both The Big Takeover and The New York Funk Exchange will provide a Prince-like night of dancing and letting loose. Wear comfy shoes and check your ego at the door.

#4 Power Slug & Cameo present “Baio with Headband and Hooligan, Griffin Camper @ Cameo Gallery (SAT 12AM till they close, $12-15)

Woodsman

Vampire Weekend’s bass man has a side gig called Baio. It is a pretty deep track collection. For the night he is paired up with Headband and Hooligan (booked by PowerSlug who have been bringing top notch artists to NYC like Classixx in 2013), and Griffin Camper. This is a must see show.

#3 Woodsman @ Death By Audio (SAT 8PM, $7)

This psychedelic band (who we named one of our top 10 CMJ artists in 2011) is a must see this week. If you like to see a good jam session and your rock all spacy, then get ready. Plus this is an all ages event, so you can mingle with the young folks and be that old creepy person. Happy Saturday!

#2 Los Dudes Live at Radio Bushwick (Special Erick “Epic” Hartz Birthday Celebration), Special Guests, Heap, Hank Sinatra, Hartwell, LittleJohn , and War Party @ Radio Bushwick (SAT 9PM FREE)

Radio Bushwick has everything you’d want if you had your own place- big sound, sweet bar, sexy folk. It is open to all freaks and geeks. Super stellar lineup of niche entertainment includes New York staple, Los Dudes, plus there is a note on the Facebook invite of special brownies. I love brownies. I love special brownies.

#1 Creation is Love II- DIIV (DJ Set), The Pizza Underground, MYKKI BLANCO, Devendra Banhart (DJ Set), EXITMUSIC (DJ SET), Frances Rose, Shining Mirrors, Lewis Lazar, The Mystery Lights Labanna Babylon, Jake B, Liza Thorn The Paper Box (FRI 7PM, SOLD OUT, sorry!)

Creation is Love II

Creators Connect, an online creative community, is presenting a “collaborative night of art, music, and magic” at The Paper Box with a star-studded event this Friday.  Yes, it is sold out. Yes, you should have thought about it and got a freaking $5 ticket. However, in the slight chance someone is selling their ticket or you can hit up a friend of a friend, I suggest being there. One doesn’t know how they managed to wrangle the likes of MYYKI BLANCO and Macaulay Culkin’s new band The Pizza Underground, but we like it.
