Listening Party: King Khan & The Shrines

This week’s Listening Party focuses on the band King Khan & The Shrines. Listening Party is a curated weekly column promoting music discovery and encouraging concert-going. Featuring someone we’ve been jamming out to and we recommend to the masses, each Listening Party artist has an upcoming show at a local NYC venue. Grab your headphones and read on.

WHO:  King Khan as Himself, Ben Ra - Space Sax, Big Fred Roller - Big Sax, Till Timm - Tn'T, Fredovitch - Orgasm, Riddiman - Bass, John Boy Adonis - Skins, Ron Streeter - Percussions, Simon Wojan - Trumpet, Guitar and Morbach - Alto Sax and Brazilian Donkey Teeth Supplier.

THEY SAY:  “Imagine Roky Erickson backed by the Sun Ra Arkestra or Wilson Pickett and The Velvet Underground, or picture the love child of Anubis and Kali."

WE SAY:  Frantically fun rock that's fringed with countless musical influences

FROM: Berlin, Germany

ONLINE: https://www.facebook.com/kingkhanandtheshrines/

LABELS: Vice, King Khan Music

Recent Work:  2013's Idle No More

Upcoming Show:  Next Wednesday (Oct 30) at Webster Hall

Elegant in their eccentric style, King Khan & The Shrines have perfected their unpredictable rock'n'roll style and are taking it all over the world. The instrument count varies, but always accompanying the main man King Khan - who prances around, usually in a reflective silver blazer - is a full band, a full brass section, and backup singers. With these parts they clash and mash many genres together (punk, soul, jazz, and garage) to perform one helluva live show. Catch them at Webster Hall next Wednesday, and bring your dancing shoes.
