It’s pretty much felt like fall ever since we pulled those jackets out from the back of our closets sometime in mid-August. But now, it’s official! The fall equinox has come and gone, and although the days and nights are roughly equal in length (thanks, Wikipedia), we still much prefer the nighttime. Here’s all the cool music we suggest filling those chilly autumn nights with this weekend (Spoilers: Allah Las, DJ Guyanna Ross, Porches, Heaven’s Gate, Low Fat Getting High, Shilpa Ray, SECRET SHOWS and more).  All these official good times have left us feeling pretty ambitious. But then again, Harvard was our safety school.

10. DJ Guyanna Ross @ Alaska (SAT all night, $FREE)

Oh, Guyanna Ross, what is there to say except that your soul grooves are irresistible? If you’re looking to dance it out, this is the spot for you.

9.  W4’s 3rd Annual END of SUMMER FESTIVAL @ Exapno (SAT 8PM, $12)

This Saturday head to Fort Greene and check out a talent-packed lineup at the End of Summer Festival put on by composer collective w4. The music will be experimental in nature, featuring violas, violins, cellos and other REAL instruments! It might just transport you.

8. Toe & Birthmark @ Glasslands (FRI 8:30PM, $12)

Japanese rock band Toe are ready to hit American shores this weekend, which gives new meaning to the term “big in Japan.” Come to Glasslands early for Birthmark (and drink specials!) before the band’s big Glasslands debut.

Heaven’s Gate – Transmuting by InflatedRecords

7. Heaven’s Gate, LODRO, Blanche Blanche Blanche & Extra Feeler @ Silent Barn (FRI 8PM)

Friday night’s lineup is insane. Heaven’s Gate bring their loud, yet ultimately sway-worthy brand of rock, to the barn in honor of their debut LP, Transmuting. Plus, LODRO, Extra Feeler, and Blanche Blanche Blanche (not Devereaux).

6. Low Fat Getting High @ The Grand Victory (SAT 7PM, $8)

Speaking of things like “loud” and “rock,” on Saturday you’ll have the chance to destroy what’s left of your hearing with a set from Low Fat Getting High. This local power trio’s raw, sludgy style makes it all worth it, though.

5. Vulture Shit, Big Ups, I’m Sick & Ellis Dodi @ The Neverlands (FRI 8PM, $FREE)

Not only is this show A) local and B) free, but it features a few of our favorite bands. Big Ups, in particular, really know how to bring the snarling, screechy punk fun. Catch them alongside the fuzzy sounds of Vulture Shit, plus I’m Sick, Ellis Dodi, and some mind-blowing visual art.

4. Allah Las @ Mercury Lounge (THURS, early show 7:30PM/late show 10:30PM, $15)

We’re just putting this here to tease you because both the early and late shows from garage gods The Allah Las have already sold out. You snooze you lose. This band fucking rules.

3. Shilpa Ray, Zerobridge, Ranjit & DJ Justin Johnson @ The Paper Box (SAT 9PM, $10)

Yikes, yet another really good one! On Saturday, The Paper Box brings Shilpa Ray, Zerobridge, Ranjit & the Ambassadors, and DJ Justin Johnson together under one roof. Or rather, one box.

Porches – Franklin the Flirt by explodinginsoundrecords

2. Porches, Laser Background, Isadora, What Moon Things @ Cake Shop (THURS 8PM, $8)

If you haven’t managed to catch Porches yet, Thursday night is your chance. That’s when Cake Shop hosts these local weavers of melancholy magic with some equally cool friends: Laser Background, Isadora, and What Moon Things.

1. Arcade Fire Secret Show @ ??? (SAT 11:55PM)

WHOA. What’s that, you say?! A secret show from the Arcade Fire after their appearance on Saturday Night Live?! The details for this show might be totally top secret, but it’s most definitely happening (we think) this Saturday night. Keep your ears open, your eyes peeled, and let us know if you manage to snag a spot!
