F*CK YES: Top 10 Music Shows & Parties

Celebrate warmer temperatures this weekend by taking in all the glory that summer-to-fall's lovely transition brings

Celebrate warmer temperatures this weekend by taking in all the glory that summer-to-fall's lovely transition brings. Our list this week is packed full of free outdoor concerts and some raverific parties. Sneak peek: Garden Potlucks, BBQ Concerts, a oh-so-rare Rubulad party (*update: said Rubulad party has been cancelled*), an electronic music festival from Bang! On, and all around awesome rock'n'roll offerings!

Dj Dog Dick in his Bizarre Glory

#10 DJ Dog Dick, I.U.D., DJ Dago @ Union Poll (SAT 2-6PM, $FREE)

If you're looking for a not-so-average Saturday afternoon, spin over to Union Pool to witness some whacky live music from Baltimore experimental electronic musician Dj Dog Dick. You might need to wash his creeperific set down with a few beers, but hey! Only in Brooklyn can you see a show strange as this one in a prepster hotspot like Union Pool.

#9 Kissing is a Crime, Terry Malts, LVL UP @ Glasslands Gallery (THU 8:30PM, $10)

San Fran's jangly garage rockers Terry Malts rock out at Glasslands tonight! They're joined by Bushwick wanderers Kissing is A Crime and indie stronghold LVL Up.

#8 Tiki Disco Closes the Beach for the Season @ Rippers (SUN 3PM-late, $FREE)

It's a tiki disco on the beach for the last time this season! If you're already nostalgic for summer, this is the event for you. Let's kick it one last time at the Rockaways, and say goodbye to Summer with DJs and shitty beer.

#7 Nude Beach, Suspicious Beats, Honey @ Mercury Lounge (FRI 9PM, $10)

Ooh, are we digging Nude Beach's easy-to-swallow rock'n'roll jams. With a sprinkling of pop goodness and bluesy guitar solos, you'll be twisting and shouting all night long!

#6 DIIV, Guards, Fletcher Johnson @ Havemeyer Park (SAT 6 pm, $FREE)

We love Diiv's music just as much as everyone else- sweeping, oceanic guitars, echoing vocals and plodding rhythms. Don't let the recent headlines get in the way of going to see this great band do what they do best: perform.

#5 Cocoon Media Scape: A 1-day performance Art Collaborative Residency @ Governor's Island  (SAT all day, $FREE)

An all day inter-disciplinary art festival featuring multi-sensory mediums of performance, video projection mapping, animation and experimental sound from electronic and traditional instruments from Cocoon Media and Spread Art Gallery! The whole day is free, and so is the ferry- don't miss your change to visit governor's island before it closes for the season. More info here.

#4 Mesiko, Sprinkle Genies, Level 2 @ The People's Garden (SAT 4-8PM, $FREE)

Yet another outdoor show to make your toes curl! This one is a potluck at The People's Garden, conveniently located off the J train so you don't have to fuck with the L this weekend. Mesiko, the headliners, will bring incredible, mystical, psychedelic rock music to your ears while you enjoy the scenery of a garden, also while nibbling from potluck offerings. Bring a dish or just bring yourself!

#3 Rubulad presents Family Reunion! @ 687 Flushing (SAT 9:30PM- 6AM, $10 before 11PM, $15 in costume all night, $20 otherwise) -+-*-CANCELLED-*-+-

We simply adore Rubulad parties, which are the cream of the crop when it comes to art-based underground parties.

*UPDATE- This event has been cancelled due to last minute problems with the venue. Tearing up slightly.*

#2 Charles Bradley and The Menahan Street Band, The Budos Band, Naomi Shelton & Gospel Queens @ Williamsburg Park  (FRI doors 5:30PM, $FREE)

We put this show on our September to do list because we are so excited about grooving out in Williamsburg's new waterfront park venue  this Friday night! Charles Bradley brings his smooth R&B soul backed by his psychedelic soul to the masses in a free show, with excellent openers The Budos Band and Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens.

#1 ELEMENTS Outdoor Music & Art Festival by BangOn!NYC @ Gowanus Bay Industrial Waterfront (SAT 3-11PM, $30-40)

The price tag is steep, but judging by Bang! On's past events, it will be worth it for a day packed with electronic phenomena. Saturday's festival includes 4 stages (each themed of an element: earth, water, wind, fire) and high-level DJs like Azari & III, Mr. Oizo, and so many more. Plus: food carts, live projections, burning man art carts, and an interactive bubble room (what!?). If you are free on Saturday, and you have some spare dollars, you had better roll on through. Tickets here.
